Vermont is Hot & Cold With Psychedelics

Psychedelics are illegal in Vermont. There have been several reform efforts, but none have been successful.

You can legally obtain the psychedelic mushroom Amanita Muscaria. You can also get psilocybin mushroom spores. However, cultivating them remains illegal.

State Reform Efforts

In 2021, two bills attempted to decriminalize and increase access to psychedelics in Vermont. H.878 would have decriminalized mushrooms, ayahuasca, and peyote. Both bills ultimately failed.

Several more bills were introduced in early 2023 regarding psychedelics. None of the bills have seen any action since March of 2023. Even if legislation regarding psychedelic reform does pass the State House and Senate, there is concern as to whether the Governor will sign it into law.

Possession of any psychedelic drug remains a felony.

When Will Psychedelics Be Legalized?

There is no active legislation that offers a concrete timeline as to when psychedelics will be legalized in Vermont. However, there has been enough support from the state’s legislature to indicate that there may be reform in the not-too-distant future.
