The psychedelic sector never sits still. Here is what happened during the week of August 25–31, 2025, and why each story matters for the companies and investors we track.

AbbVie / Gilgamesh Pharmaceuticals (ABBV): AbbVie to acquire Gilgamesh's psychedelic candidate bretisilocin for up to $1.2 billion

AbbVie agreed to acquire Gilgamesh Pharmaceuticals' lead asset bretisilocin (GM-2505), a short-acting 5-HT2A agonist and serotonin releaser in Phase 2 development for major depressive disorder, in a deal worth up to $1.2 billion in upfront and milestone payments. A Phase 2a trial had shown a single 10 mg dose meaningfully reduced depressive symptoms versus a low-dose comparator. atai Life Sciences said management would appear at several investor conferences in September 2025. The circuit gave the company a platform to make its case to institutional investors as it advanced its planned strategic combination with Beckley Psytech, which it had guided toward a shareholder-approval stage in Q4 2025 following July's positive BPL-003 Phase 2b topline.
