Governor Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dustin Burrows said Texas will deploy $50 million previously appropriated by the legislature to conduct its own ibogaine research program after the state failed to find a qualifying drug-company partner. Texas Health and Human Services selected UTHealth Houston, with UTMB Galveston, to lead a statewide two-year trial studying ibogaine for addiction, traumatic brain injury and other behavioral health conditions. The commitment is the largest single state investment in psychedelic research to date.
